Empty Sky
-Empty Sky- The word, "Empty", occurred to my mind when I looked up at a clear sky in cold winter, facing the Ground Zero. The September 11th was the terrible tragedy, and at the same time I wonder if it gave an opportunity to all of the world to reconsider the reality of our cultures and our place or the space we occupy in the expanding history of civilization.
The feeling of emptiness and loss came to my mind by facing Ground Zero, but I also remember that this has been always with me historically, and the present age as we add, subtract, or erase the visual and intlectual content expressed in form by our present lives and our different cultures around the world, and my cultural content and viewpoint in the content and ideas expressed through my art and being Japanese.
By selecting "Empty Sky" as a theme for my exhibition, I would like to express my sense of loss and the void left by the absence of a dynamic life filled architectural icon (world trade centers) and the loss of humanity, dynamic contributors to the content of history leaving a symbolic and realvoid in the world, and as a reflection of my thoughts and reflections on September 11, 2001.
-Empty Sky(虚空)-
Jan. 2002
